kj retreats was created after a lifetime of travel experiences in my youth and living abroad in places like Japan and France.
I realized that during my travels, eating at restaurants for every meal can become redundant and also a challenge to seek out places that didn’t cater to tourists from far flung destinations. I’ve also found myself inspired to cook, and wanted people to share it with.
I wanted to create an experience where you could enjoy living like a local. Go to the markets and buy all the fresh foods you want to bring ‘home’ not a cramped hotel room with no kitchen. Learn from local chefs about how to prepare local inspired meals, while sharing the experience with others.
The mission is to provide you with unique and unforgettable adventures in places you have always wanted to visit, but didn’t have the time to plan for or know the best spots to ensure a special trip. Whether staying in a medieval village in France or a boutique Rhiad in the heart of the medina in Marrakech, I believe sharing good food and gathering around a table, while discovering new places, creates lasting memories that will be cherished for a lifetime.
This is a holiday with a culinary and market focus, but by no means is an intense “cooking school.” The experience is meant to be a discovery of the region in all areas, but it’s foremost your vacation, itineraries are flexible and meant to be an enjoyment, not a rigid plan.
I want to share my passion for food and travel with you, share my “best of gems” and for you to leave feeling rested, satiated and inspired to continue cooking and discovering beautiful destinations while doing so.
